mom, jesse, and i went to new york city for four days! on monday night we enjoyed some matzo ball soup, pastrami, and egg creams at carnegie deli. on tuesday we walked about 5 miles or so to explore the downtown scene. we found the strand bookstore, did a lil thrifting, ate fries at pomme frites, sat down for a nice cup of tea, and evaded a down pour by finding shelter underground. we then enjoyed a play, seeing other desert cities at the booth theater. we all related to the different characters in this family drama and enjoyed the overall message of love. for the remaining days, we got busy with the museums. we saw the maurizio cattelan retrospective at the guggenheim, toured a rainforest at the natural history museum, and got inspired by the feminist work of sanja ivekovic at the moma. oh, and we also saw a modern dance performance by momix called botanica that challenged our understanding of physics. we exhausted ourselves and had an absolutely amazing time. bisous.

I think my favorite experience was the simple walking from A to B. I loved getting a real feel for how Manhattan is laid out. I loved walking through Central Park. The city was insanely crowded the week before New Year's Eve, but Central Park was only sparsely populated with people walking from the east to the west side of the park, from the Guggenheim to the American Museum of Natural History. It has become such a privilege to travel, but sometimes the simple things are still the best.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite museum was the American Museum of Natural History with its American Animals, Pacific NW collection, and the biodiversity wing. The animals of the earth are like music!
