project orpheus

On Saturday night I saw a modern dance interpretation of the tragic Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice downtown.  Orpheus is the greatest musician and poet of Greek myth and his wife, Eurydice, is killed by a serpent.  He travels to the underworld to bring her back and because his songs are so beautiful Hades and Persephone allow him to bring her back, on the condition that she follows at a distance and Orpheus has to trust that she's there without looking back at her.  So of course he looks back just as they get to the top and she goes back to hades... tragic.  The music was really good and the guy who played orpheus was great- very expressive and good looking.
