black power mixtape

This weekend I watched three films: Dr. Zhivago (1965), Marathon Man (1976), and The Black Power Mixtapes (2011).  Impressions?  Julie Christie is a babe, Marathon Man is scary (I did not know clove oil could be used as a pain reliever for severed nerves!  aaaand now I do...), and the soundtrack by Questlove and Om'mas Keith in Black Power Mixtapes, along with the footage, is simply incredible.

  1. Love all of those films. Yes, we had clove oil in our med cabinet, but you may not have had to use it. The Cleavers divorced, Kathleen returned to law school at Yale, and now teaches black history/civil rights courses at Emory. He wrote Soul on Ice; was a seriously violent criminal (assault; rape). I think so many of the Black Panthers were brilliant tragedies of racism, and never emerged successfully from that legacy.

I told Walter he should go to any talks she might give.
